Sapper,Lancer sister ship
She was built in 1914 by Smiths Dock Co. Ltd. of Hull.  She was requisitioned by the Admiralty and renamed Lancer 11 in 1917.  She had a single boiler with a 3 cylinder triple expansion engine and was fitted out with one 6 pound gun mounted at the bows.
She was holed in a collision with HM yacht Vagrant near the Brighton Light Vessel.  She was then taken in tow by HM Vagrant but foundered on the way to Newhaven.
The gun was raised by TWSAC to collect serial numbers for identification.  The bell was later found but had no name on it.  Later still, Roger Theabald found the shipmaker’s plate that named the wreck.

The raising was featured in dive magazine, not sure what year it was or what month.(Roger has promised me the mag if he ever finds it)

The photos were kindly donated by Alan Knight OBE
Thanks Alan
