The Duchess was a British cargo steamer of 586 tons. She was built in 1889, by Ailsa Shipping Company (yard number 83) for John Hay of Glasgow. She was lost in a collision with the British destroyer HMS Cossack, while in a convoy, 3 miles off the Royal Sovereign Lighthouse, on 1 July 1917, on passage from Newhaven to France. Shifty the cameraman was having some lens trouble so its a bit green, although the water was quite clear on the day.
Video starts at the bow which is quite flat then moves to the boiler and then engine which is the highest and most interesting part of the wreck.
